Result of the Weekend

This weekend's project was a new bag. No particular reason, just had the stuff.

We got new curtains for the bedroom because while the ones I made looked nice, they didn't block any light, and when you want to sleep in they don't work so well.  Due to some availability issues at the store, I had to buy longer ones and hem them, so I had a bit left over of the thermal backed fabric. What's cool about thermal backed fabric is that it's already interfaced and you don't have to add it.

The interior is a yarn ball print that my mom gave me for Christmas one year.

I used this Warehouse Fabrics pattern and tutorial. I didn't add the pockets. First time using magnetic clasps. I made sure to like quadruple reinforce them.

I'm finding a lot of sewing patterns on Pinterest that I want to try. The only thing is that I really just want the fabric. I haven't seen any of those cool ones at the joann, and I wonder where they're coming from.

Little Bits and some Funk

I have suffered from depression all my life. It's nothing new. Sometimes when I get deep into the funk, I do not write because I think it is pointless.

I still craft, sometimes more to keep my hands busy and ignore everything else.

Oddly (sadly? interestingly?) enough, I seem to be more creative and productive during these periods. I would really hate if the two were linked together, but that's how it seems to be.

But today the sun is shining, the wind is blowing (fiercely), I feel ok, and I'm going to show you some of the stuff I did last weekend.

I wrapped the last star pendant, and gave it and the blue one their new respective chains:

Yes, the second "clear" one looks just like the other one I wrapped the other week, it's just smaller, and much more wearable.

I also made a shirt. The remnants bin was generous and yielded a whole yard of this stripey jersey. The lighter stripes are kind of sparkly, though the picture doesn't show it.  I got together with the dress form and draped and pinned and cut, and now I have a boatneck top. I've never worn a boatneck before, but the test run to work the other day went well. It doesn't bug me as much as I thought it would.

So....stuff. Yep, stuff.

Cut A Rug

The Martha Stewart clearances Lofty Wool has become a small rug. And I do mean small. Here it is with my foot for comparison. (if you're a regular reader, that sock will look familiar.)(who am I kidding, I don't have any regular readers. )

And of course, as soon as I finished it and set it down, it was claimed.

Overall it only took about two hours. I forgot how much hand strength it takes to use bulky yarn. Mm I did work from a pattern, the Mandala Rug (link coming later), up until the second row of green. Then I realized that the amount of the colors I had wasn't going to cut it for staying on pattern. But it still worked out well.

Haul

Apparently on youtube there are these girls that go shopping and show you item by item what they bought. Odd.
I just do it all in one picture.

I went to the Joann for jewelry things and they had the bulky Martha Stewart yarns on clearance, so I bought (hopefully) enough to make two small rugs.

Add to that the recent unraveling and reclaiming of some yarn and my stash is now quite recovered from the last clean out. Possibly TOO recovered. Time for inventory, I suppose.

The Alterings

So the final item from the thrift haul was the black and white shirt.  It was purchased too large, intending to be cut down to fit me. And so it has. It was a 2XL with cap sleeves (WHICH ARE THE DEVIL).

Before:

After:

I cut up the sides as I usually do to take it in. And while it did give me a little bit more sleeve, it just didn't look right. So the sleeves departed, and I shortened it at the shoulders as well because everything is cut too low for me. Even shirts I get from Old Navy and stuff. (seriously WTF).  It looks good. The only thing that gives me pause is that it has a bit of empire waist feel to it and I don't need the "are you pregnant?" questions.
(I'm not AND DO NOT WISH TO BE AND IT IS NONE OF YOUR BEESWAX ANYWAY. UGH.)

NOW, alteration number TWO is something that I wish I would have thought of myself a long time ago, but for some reason it just didn't occur to me. I saw it on Pinterest and went "Dammit, that's a BRILLIANT idea." (See the original idea here)  I have these shirts I like, but they seem to shrink because I both suck at laundry and like food.   So voila, the accent stripe.

The final alteration has been waiting forever. This is one of the primary reasons I bought the dress form. The husband cleaned out his closet and ditched a pretty purple button down shirt. I snagged it, but this one wouldn't be able to be cut down the normal way. This was going to require measuring and DARTS. Both sewing machines got pulled into service for this one.

Darty in the front:

 AND the back...

I also had to cut down the sleeves because once I got the body tailored the sleeves looked ridiculous. All in all, I'm quite happy with how this one turned out.

Starry Days and Pendants

I'm a sucker for anything with stars.

So when I found out there were star shaped Swarovski crystals, into the shopping cart they went.  I ended up with a 28mm clear crystal and a 20mm blue crystal. Now that I have them both home and wire wrapped, I like the smaller version better. So I've already ordered a 20 mm clear crystal and will find something to do with this one. Won't be hard, because like I said, I do <3 p="" some="" stars.="">

The blue one is currently residing on a 20" chain.

I also had this faceted citrine. It was gifted to me long ago in a bunch of beading stuff. I had bought a ring setting for it, and that was fine, but I don't really wear rings so much anymore, and it didn't quite fit right. So I  bought a Bezelite setting and made it into a pendant.

Except...the setting is the tiniest bit too big. It's a (slightly smaller by less than half a mm) 9x7 mm stone, and the only options they had were 10x8mm and 8x6. So I went with the bigger, and it's just a bit TOO loose for my taste. So I've ordered the smaller one. I think there'll be enough play I can make that one work better. And then I also ordered a pink cubic zirconia to put in this setting because SHINY THINGS.
