Yesterday I started chaining for the re-start of the socks. This time I'm going with The Crochet Dragon Scale socks out of the CLF book.

It's a toes up pattern, so I think it'll work out much better than the other....

Blast from the Past: The Cat-ghan

A long time ago (2001), I was living with my boyfriend of the time whom I now refer to as "Evil Ex" because he turned into pure evil.

Anyway...back before I figured out he was evil, right after we moved in together, I decided that I was going to make an afghan, in his favorite colors: green and black. I used granny squares, and what I believe are called Wagon Wheel squares, but I'd have to look at the motif book again to be sure.

This being back before I had access to decent yarns and before I morphed into the crafting maven I claim to be now, the entire thing was constructed from Red Heart acrylic.
(Not downing the red heart, but it's not really my preferred yarn...)

Anyway...this being the most crocheting I'd done since I'd gotten him, Joe would crawl on my lap and purr and try to eat the yarn. (He still does...old habits die hard)

So I finished the afghan, and Evil Ex wanted nothing to do with it, really. That should have been one of my first clues that he was evil. But really, even if he had wanted it, we never really got the chance to use it, because Joe adopted it for himself.

Yep. That's right. It became the cat blanket, by sheer stubbornness.

I've hung onto it through every single move because hey, that was a lot of work, it was my very first "real" afghan! And wherever we go, Joe must have his blankie. The last place we lived, when Joe took up residence under the bed, it was his nest.

Even when I pulled it out to spread it out and take pictures, he was perturbed....

"It's MY blankie, and don't you forget it!"

*crosses fingers*

I just sent in my pattern submission for the 3rd CLF book!

Once I hear back one way or the other, I can at least show you what it looks like, but till then it's under wraps.

I really hope it happens - getting something published is one of my goals for this year!

Fear not, even though the sock is stagnating, that doesn't mean that my creativity is doing the same...

Today I did some decorating. It took me long enough, seeing that we've been in this place since last July. But we signed the intent to renew, so we're going to be here at least another year or so, and I don't want to keep looking at plain boring stuff. Plus, I have been watching a lot of HGTV lately, and I'm not sure if that's caused by the creative strike hitting, or whether the creative strike is caused by the HGTV...

Witness the before:

And now the after:

See what you can do with 5 1/2 yards of fabric and some duct tape?

I've also been doing a little bit of painting, but you're not going to get to see that, at least not yet. Right now I'm just trying to get my skills back and figure out how to get the paint to do what I want, but at least I actually got the stuff out and started using it, which is a really big step for me.

So now I have a quandary.

I was working on the sock last night. And I looked at it. I tried it on. And I realized, I just don't like it.

So I have to decide now if I'm more disgusted with the sock itself, or more disgusted that I already put so much time into it that I have to finish it, regardless of like.

It's really close to being frogged, I can tell you that.

(I'm not giving up on socks - I have other patterns I want to try - I'm just not liking how this one is turning out...)

Le Sigh.

I've made it to the actual foot of the sock now. Only a few more inches and the toe and it's done.
Then I get to make it's mate...

I think that if I make this pattern again after this pair that I will:
a: make the next size down if I'm using stretchy yarn
b: make the leg shorter.

But hey, this is what experimentation's all about, right?

So it's been another week or so, I should have made major progress on the socks, right?

I worked on them a bit last week while the boyfriend was out of town, decided something didn't look right, and frogged back to the heel flap. So I am officially back where I was last time, maybe a few rows ahead.

I'm currently searching ravelry to see if anyone else is having the same issues I am with the gusset, but not much luck. Everyone else apparently get it, I guess I'm just the one with the concentration issues.

I'm thinking this project might just get put on hold for a little.
It's really really gorgeous here in VA this week, and I'm just itching to get outside and do stuff in the sunshine, which doesn't include a lot of craftyness.

Don't get me wrong, there may be a "sit out on the balcony and work" time in there, but no guarantees! :)
